چکیده
1. Abstract Evolutionary topology optimization using design space adjustment and refinement is proposed to deal with large-scale problems. Until now, parallel processing methods have been mainly employed, but they need special treatment in the analyses and algorithms. Design space optimization proposed in this paper is a new efficient method for large-scale topology optimization by virtue of two reasons. First, design space adjustment including design space expansion and reduction is suitable for large-scale problems. Second, multi-level refinements of the design space can reduce the number of elements needed in a FE model for a given degree of resolution and accelerate convergence speed in optimization process. Three examples are considered to show the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed approach in handling large-scale problems. 2.

In sequential approximate optimization for general or complex structures, it seems to be ineffective due to the need of many numbers of structural analyses. It was, besides, more expensive to structural analysis than selection of experiment point, response surface approximation and optimization algorithm execution. So, it is necessary for distributed processing to reducing the time. Current com...

In the optimization process of a complex three-dimensional continuum structure by using the conventional evolutionary structural optimization method, some isolated groups of elements or a few elements being of rigid movements, often appear in the optimized structure, which becomes singular so that the optimization process can’t continue. In order to overcome this problem, this paper proposes an...

Natural materials such as bone, tooth, and nacre are nano-composites of proteins and minerals with superior stiffness and toughness. At the most elementary structure level, bio-composites exhibit a generic microstructure consisting of staggered mineral bricks wrapped by soft protein in nanoscale. Why does nature design building blocks of biological materials in this form? Can we reproduce this ...

The economy of the steel truss girder bridge superstructure, used extensively in medium and long span ranges, is affected by many factors such as the cost of material, dictated by the configuration and depth of truss, shape and size of members, and cost of fabrication. Most conventional methods of optimization deal with only member optimization assuming only continuous design variables, leading...

1. Abstract Work has been carried out to investigate some of the important design parameters and performance criteria that should be addressed when designing servo mechanisms and, subsequently, to put forward a computationally efficient design procedure. Emphasis is put on the handling of the discrete design variables. A two-stage approach is presented that uses dimensionless parameters that ma...
